Hi Everyone
We are on a 6 week trip of a lifetime visiting Singapore (2 nights), Perth (5 nights), Melbourne (4 nights), touring the South and then the North Islands of New Zealand for nearly a month, finishing with 3 nights in Hong Kong.
A wonderful opportunity to take photographs of so many contrasting cultures and landscapes. We would like to share a selection of images we have taken along the way on our Nikon D7000 and D800 cameras. We hope you enjoy them and continue to follow us on our adventures.
(The most recent post will be the first you will see so by working backwards and through the 'older posts' you will get to the beginning of the trip. Posts will be added when we get the selected images processed and internet access).

Bowen Falls, Milford Sound

We have many more images of this waterfall but this perhaps gives the scale of it. There are only 2 actual waterfalls in the Sound - this one; Bowen Falls and the other is Stirling Falls. The hundreds of other variable sized 'waterfalls' in the fiord result about an hour after it rains.

This was the view from one of the observation windows. The pink fish are a type of perch and the white lacy type plant is actually black coral - it's a big explanation but trust me it is black coral.

Observation/Discovery Centre, Milford Sound

Part of the cruise was visiting this centre which was built in 1996 and is some feat of engineering. Guided kayaking tours were also available from here (no thank you). Spiral stairs take you down to a large observation area where you can view the inhabitants of the fiord who live in the top 40 metres of salt water just below the 1.5 metres of fres...

This is the only day cruises on the Sound that enters into the Tasmin Sea. On turning the boat round to re-enter the Fiord it became very gusty and the temperature dropped considerably causing the majority of passengers to scuttle down below to the warmth. As you can see from this image the sides of the fiord are very steep enabling the cruise ships to get in very close. The water is 400 metres deep with the top 1.5 metres being fresh water from the @ 7 metres a year rainfall, which results from approx. 200 days of rain. How we managed to get a bright, sunny, crisp day for the cruise we'll never know...

Cruising on Milford Sound

This was the Southern Discoveries catamaran we were on for our 3 hour cruise and BBQ lunch.
Milford Sound is a Fiord (note different spelling used in New Zealand and the fact that it is called a 'sound' when it's actually a fiord, which is a valley made from glaciers). This whole area is called Fiordland.

This was our second visit to this lake - a major fight between two ducks caused so many ripples the first time that it was anything but a milk pond. Anyway we engaged Elmar Fudd and the mirror effect returned.
