We stopped at a scenic spot on the way back from Milford Sound called 'The Chasm'. In the carpark were 5 yellow crowned parakeets, which are native to NZ. Oh great ....photo opportunity. No sooner had Alan got out the car and armed himself with his camera than the 5 parakeets leaped onto the car bonnet and while his pals progressed onto the roof, this one remained on the bonnet pecking at the windscreen wipers while another was peering over the roof into the passenger window where I'm rigid with fear (well not quite but I'm trying to build on the drama). Anyway it was like a scene out of Hitchcock's 'The Birds'. When they got bored and left I got out the car and said to Alan .....well did you get a good photo for the blog of them on the roof? No he says I was trying to get the colourful feathers under their wings. That's photographers for you....just as well I snapped this 'bare faced parakeet' so I could tell you this story.
